Atty. Jude Sabio, a practising lawyer from Cagayan de Oro, wrote a letter to Hon. Fatou Bensouda, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), submitting, for appropriate action, the latter’s communication entitled “The Situation of Mass Murder in the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte: The Mass Murderer”
Pres. Duterte and 11 others were accused of committing crimes against humanity due to the thousands of deaths resulting from the war on drugs.
“Crimes against humanity are crimes of universal jurisdiction, but where a State like the Philippines fails to assume such universal jurisdiction for crimes against humanity continuously being committed in its very own territory, then the International Criminal Court will have to intervene into a situation that is grave by any human standard,” said Atty. Sabio.
